2.9-Magnitude Earthquake Near Dacono Felt Across Denver Metro

A mild earthquake measuring 2.9 on the Richter scale gave residents near Dacono, Colorado, an early morning jolt, with tremors reported as far as 20 miles away in the Denver metro area.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake’s epicenter was located about 3 miles southwest of Dacono, a small town north of Denver. Though not especially strong, the quake’s proximity to a densely populated region made it widely felt, with shaking reported in Thornton, Erie, and other nearby communities.

While the largest earthquake in Colorado in 2025 remains the 3.2-magnitude tremor recorded near Delta on April 3, the Dacono quake stood out for its reach and visibility along the Front Range.

Though no damage or injuries were reported, the incident served as a timely reminder that earthquakes can and do occur in Colorado—and that preparedness remains key, even in regions not typically known for seismic activity.
